Life is not balanced
There is a word getting thrown around and its confusing and misleading. Honestly it’s misused. That word is Balance. Life is not balanced.

I’ve heard many people say, “You need balance in your life, You’d feel more better or do better if you just had things balanced…”
But, What is balance, exactly??
What is Balance?
Mental steadiness or emotional stability; habit of calm behavior, judgment, etc. a state of bodily equilibrium: Equal distribution of weight.

As a mom, you have to balance a lot of things.
Kids, caring for the home, planning and cooking meals, running errands, caring for your husband and nurturing your marriage, personal health, friendships, taking care of your needs, time with God, work…. The list goes on!
So if these things are balanced (using the definition above) then I have to put equal amounts into each thing???

There isn’t enough hours in a day!!
You can’t have a clean home, amazing meals, happy kids and a booming business all in one day.
One day you are crushing your work goals but your house isn’t tidy. Or you spent the day getting the house back in order but dinner was just a quick crockpot meal.
Life is a Pendulum
You see it’s more like a pendulum or a soundboard rather than a scale… because everything cannot be equally distributed.
This can be hard to understand but things are always shifting.
Trying to maintain balance is stressful and discouraging, because it is impossible.

Setting and maintaining boundaries and choosing priorities is very important. Life and our time commitments have to be reevaluated frequently though.
Life is not balanced But there is hope!
The key is… If We focus on Jesus he will tell us what’s most important and that’s when We can be somewhat balanced. He goes before us and already knows where our time should be spent, so if we seek him with our everyday plans, demands and To Dos, He will guide us and show us what’s most important each day.

I’m so thankful I don’t need to lean on my own understanding!!!
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6
I don’t need to try to have a balanced life or figure out what takes priority in each moment. Yes, I can set boundaries and make priorities but if I submit those things to him, he will give me clarity and make my paths straight!
Life is not balanced so Seek First the Kingdom of God
If We want to do kingdom work, We need to talk and walk with him, we need to cling so close to him so that we can hear his voice.
Did you know, God uses your sacrifice to impact his kingdom?

He calls you to things when you are busy working. He intervenes and redirects you if he needs to. But we must have attentive ears to listen. We must sacrifice and let go of things in order to fully follow His plans for us.
“O God our Father, history and experience have given us so many evidences of Thy guidance to nations and to individuals that we should not doubt Thy power of Thy willingness to direct us. Give us the faith to believe that when God wants us to do or not to do any particular thing, God finds a way of letting us know.
“May we not make it more difficult for Thee to guide us, but be willing to be led of Thee, that Thy will may be done in us and through us for the good of America and all mankind. This we ask in Jesus’ name. AMEN.”
Mr. Jones Meet Your Maker by Peter Marshall
Peter Marshall was a pastor of Washington’s historic New York Avenue Presbyterian Church. He also served as a former U.S. Senate chaplain. He was a wise man of God and if you can read any of his books or sermons, I suggest you do, because they will be a blessing and an encouragement.

Sometimes in our home, we get a lot of schooling done and the cleaning gets neglected. Life will never be perfectly balanced. I think it is very important for moms to hear this. Moms have so many hats to wear each day and it can be exhausting and overwhelming trying to be balanced. So here is what you can do, when you wake up in the morning, give all of those plans, To Dos and thoughts in your mind to God. And then trust that He will show you where your time is to be spent that day.
Life is not balanced so today, I’ll spend time cleaning the kitchen.
I could be upset and annoyed about the overflowing pile of dishes.
“Couldn’t you have used one knife to make lunch yesterday, instead of every knife we own?”, I think to myself.
But I look at the dishes and remember that this is a sign that we are using our hands to create meals. We are feeding and nourishing bodies at home. We are creating memories in the kitchen and learning.
So, today we clean the kitchen while we hum and sing praises. Knowing that we serve a God who is higher and cares for all of our needs. If we trust Him and seek Him through all things, even the dishes, He will direct us and give us the strength and wisdom to do the mundane tasks. And he will open up the doors and opportunities for us to do His Kingdom work, but first… we have to let go and trust Him. Read my other faith based post about distraction here.
